Shoes are really important accessory when it comes to fashion, really fundamental to complete an outfit .
Learn how to deal with these products is same way important in order to avoid major mistakes and get the best results.
First of all we need to divide shoes into two different situation:
-shoes on mannequins
-shoes on display
Let’s focus on shoes on mannequin first
#1 WEAR SHOES
Dress the mannequins with shoes is the fundamental thing to do.
Reasons to this is to offer a full and complete selling proposal and bare feet on mannequins low the perception of the rest of your products
At this point chances are two: if your store sell shoes is a great chance to sell them, otherwise, if your store doesn’t sell shoes than is still great to wear a pair of simple black shoes or neutral colored shoes in order to offer a suggestion to complete the outfit.
#2 RIGHT SIZE
Wearing the right size of shoes is important to avoid the big gap between mannequin feet and shoe.
You can consider a slightly bigger shoe, like half or one size bigger, in order to be easier to fit on mannequin feet, but don’t do the mistake of go too big as the gap will be visible and once again will pull down the appealing and value.
#3 RIGHT SHOES
Besides the style, which of course is important to care about when you prepare an outfit, my intention is to put focus on wearing the right shoe for the right heel.
What this means?
Mannequins comes with different pose and postures, feet follows that and depending on their original shape they can and can not wear different higher of heels.
Follow that, avoid to wear flat shoes on a heeled mannequin feet or a too high heel compare to the feet shapes.
Now we move to shoes on Display
#4 GIVE SPACE
This is a major rule when in comes to visual merchandising, but I have to underline this with shoes as shoe shops are most frequently doing this mistake.
Empty space gives to eyes a break, a moment to understand the information they just got and move to another pair.
No space confuses our mind and this translate in missing sales.
Another mistake I see quite often, thinking to grab attention, shoes are displayed with so many different angles into one display or window.
This way to expose is not grabbing the right attention, is just confusing passersby and clients.
As said before, our brain really loves simple, geometrical, sleek shapes, keep this in mind.
My suggestion is to exposing shoes using only 3 different angles into the whole display.
Now 2 things that works great for both mannequins and displays
Always take care of details, in each window or display this is a really basic rule to follow.
When it comes to shoes remember to remove stuffing paper, remove or hide prices, labels, size marks etc. fasten the shoelaces or buckles and keep them clean on a daily routine.
Another basic rule that goes great with any product exposed in windows is expose models and sizes you have in depth, this in retail slang means in big quantities.
When you expose something you arise a desire (hopefully) but you have to make sure to be able to satisfy that desire that’s why you need to have a good stock.
This is also important in order to avoid sales person removing the last pair to be sold and leaving empty spot or bare feet mannequins.
I’ve summed up this six point into a video you can check down here
